Food items often travel around the world before we eat them. Analyze eating habits in your country. You might consider the following aspects, among others:
time (mealtimes, time it takes to prepare and eat meals), accelerating lifestyles, presence of women in the workforce, access to a variety of foods, food advertising, ethnic food (which countries = which foods?)

Today it's cheaper to send an apple one time around the world then planting it in our own country. We can see it when we are buying our apples in the supermarket. All apples have the same price whatever they are local or global. When you are in Spain the local cucumbers are more expensive as when you buy Spanish cucumbers in Germany. How is it possible that after a travel of 2000 kilometers the price just mottled? In the past we needn't all fruits the whole year. In the winter we had just potatoes and carrotes which were laid in so that we can eat them the whole winter but in times of refrigerators and planes you can have an apple from New Zealand in January when you want to. The question is whether we need it. We are just to spoiled.

That’s a jump of $6 billion from 2003. Big increases in foreign sales to Asia, especially China, are increasing exports and keeping the United States the world’s major food supplier. Food imports have been steadily rising for four years. There were a few months in 2004 when the United States imported more food than it exported. Increasingly, the foods Americans eat are imported because bananas, coffee, chocolate, fish and shellfish, apple juice, cashew nuts, spices, and other imported foods are produced in greater quantity or less expensively abroad or, in some cases, cannot be produced in the U.S.
ReplyDeletei hard core gree with alex!!! you took what i was going to say!!! but it very true we import every thing because it so much cheaper. i guess it good in some ways it getting the world to really work together but it doesnt help our own country very much.but hey use what you got right???????
ReplyDeleteIf you go to the next supermarket in Germany there is a bigger assortment of food than ever before. People don´t care about where the food comes from as long as the quality seems to be good and the price is low. Today the people are used to the variation of products and nobody wants to abstain from this
